Who doesn’t want
to go on a date? Then, who do you want to go on a date with? Before
shouting ‘yes, see you there’ there are some key factors one needs to
consider before kicking off to that moment of a life time. Wait! What
kind of date are we talking about here? OK
whatever the date type is or wherever the meeting is to take place,
it’s very important you make space to withstand any form of
embarrassment.
Know Your Date!
It’s common in Lagos in particular that some people get to see their
date partners at the venue; after very few phone calls, pings or SMSs.
This is insane! If you guys don’t get to talk about each other for a
long time, you won’t know a single thing about him/her. Likes, dislikes,
background, career, police records, seen authentic pictures (i.e tell
him to take instant pics and send). Jeez! That’s the first step! So you
guys could relate on a friendly basis.
Be mischievous…Please
This is before and after you arrive the venue. Ask teaser questions
like, “what do you like to eat on a date?”, “what’s your most expensive
date?” With these prior questions (while becoming friends), you could
weigh how far and expensive that date could be. So that when he/she asks
you, “where do you want to go tonight?” or “What are you eating dear?”
You have an accurate response.
Choose the venue.
It’s important that you who is being invited should choose the venue for
the date right? Not so fast. What about the person making the
invitation? The guy should have a say on where he’s taking the lady to.
In order not to be embarrassed that you are given the choice of an
eatery and a hotel restaurant, do make the suggestions where your cash
could afford. It’s easy!
Check Your outfit, make up and …wallet!
Never leave for a date unkempt! It’s demeaning and disrespectful
especially after being informed where you are going to. Don’t go for an
‘arm-bag’ look cause you will find yourself at the background every time
making the other person feeling superior. So after a good look at
yourself in the mirror, look for your cash-bag or wallet! Never ever
forget your wallet at home when heading out for a date. You might end up
washing plates to make up for you food/drinks.
Don’t Call your Friends on your date!
It’s unheard of and that’s why our men keep insulting us as ‘gold diggers’. Na only you dem call. Wetin concern ya buddies in all dis? My friend pack well! It’s
very insulting and you’ll end up embarrassing the poor dude. What if he
had no money for three or four? And for the guys, you better insist on
that chic to come alone. Say something like this, “Babe I can’t wait to
spend this time with us alone. You know we have very busy schedules so
let’s just go out to have fun!” Lighten it up so she doesn’t feel
terrible if she had that tragic plan in mind.
Be Prompt!
This means keep to time! Make him/her know it’s imperative to be time
conscious at all times. At least that accident that happened 20 minutes
ago missed you! This also means one person doesn’t feel‘stood up’ before
you arrive or breathe a heavy sigh of relief when you finally show up.
Not cool. You two are not in any competition so no one is supposed to
chill for the other. You are out to have equal fun time. So please do
not be a lazy a**. Still on time, avoid looking at your watch too often.
this makes the one person feel he is boring or you have another date
somewhere else. Stop!
Never Ever Forget your ATM!
Even if you forgot your wallet, please grab your
ATM card which has money in it! Don’t end up b**tching about who should
pay for what which the other person didn’t budget for. With a valid
ATM, you can afford to walk off the date anytime if things get so boring
or irritating. You have no idea what an ATM card can do in those
situations?
Give out your wallet at some point!
This one came from a close friend and works with the guys. When you head
out with that chic and she enters this well stocked shop and wants
everything in it, just hand her your wallet and go sit. The point is,
when she sees how much is in that wallet, she will know what to order!
But wait! Make sure you ain’t carrying foreign currencies init oh else your name na ‘one chance’ when she returns. Be careful!
Don’t Be A Talkative
No one is saying you shouldn’t be yourself on a date, but you guys are also getting to know each other’s…good side first! Pouring out irrelevant sentences out of your large mouth won’t help anything. Reason out, be matured. So know what to say and when to say it! That’s just common sense!
Eat Right!
By this i mean don’t order the entire food store because you are not the
one paying. Furthermore, this may sound ridiculous but your manner of
eating could determine if there will be another date or not. I’m
serious! Friday night, Saturday Night are best for dates coz no work the
next day (not to all). So you may probably have the intention to eat to
the fullest and go to party or dose off in bed later. Please do not eat
like you haven’t eaten in a whole year or throw food all over the place
like you are two! It’s embarrassing not only for you but to the other person just watching the mess! Be warned!
Bonus!
Avoid your phone during a date for the love of God neither do you bring a
book along! Maybe by the time you raise your head, your date has dashed
off the door.
After all these things, you would return home fulfilled or regret why
you went out in the first place. Don’t be stupid, just do the right
thing! Dates are meant to be fun for two people so please do not make it
hell for one person!
