Manchester United are set to make an improved offer of £15m plus add-ons for Everton defender Leighton Baines, the Mail Online understands.
The Premier League champions yesterday failed with an opening bid of around £12m, with the Merseyside club insisting that their star player is not for sale.
The England international has been linked with a move to Old Trafford ever since the former Toffee’s manager was named as Sir Alex Ferguson’s successor.
He was recently crowned as Everton’s player of the season for the second time in three years, as well as once again being named in the PFA Team of the Year.
The 28 year old played every minute of his club’s 2012/13 campaign, with no other player creating more goal-scoring opportunities that his total of 116.
Should the move be finalised, it could spell the end of Patrice Evra’s time in Manchester, with the 32 year old linked with a return to France to either Monaco or Paris Saint Germain.
