Paris Saint-Germain F.C. centre-back Mamadou Sakho has revealed he
will decide his long-term future in the coming weeks amid reported
interest from the likes of AC Milan and Liverpool, Sky Sports understands.
Sakho, 23, wants to stay at his boyhood club, but not if it means not playing week in, week out.
The France international slowly but surely fell out-of-favour with manager Carlo Ancelotti last season, with the Italian boss preferring the Brazilian partnership of Alex and Thiago Silva during the latter stages of Les Parisiens 2012/2013 title-winning campaign.
Sakho, who scored two goals in 30 competitive appearances for PSG last season, wants to avoid a similar fate in 2013/14 — with the 2014 World Cup looming — and rightfully so.
It is yet to determined if Blanc will prefer Alex, 31, to Sakho, but the latter seems to want a guarantee of regular first-team football from the former Barcelona, Inter Milan and Manchester United sweeper.
“I have to take a decision. PSG are my club. I was born here and learnt my football here,” said Sakho.
“I want to play for this club my entire life but it has to be clear that I don’t want to sit on the bench.
“I did not play as much I like last season because of the manager’s choices. Every player wants to play every week and I am no different.
“There is an offer on the table. With a new manager [Laurent Blanc], I can talk and see what he thinks.
“I am flattered to be linked with clubs of the history of Liverpool and AC Milan. We will see what happens in the near future.”
Despite interest from Milan and Liverpool, expect Sakho to stay at the Parc des Princes next season.
PSV accept bid for Toivonen
Norwich City have agreed a deal to sign Sweden international forward Ola Toivonen from Dutch Eredivisie runners-up PSV Eindhoven, according to club director Marcel Brands.
Norwich have already signed Dutch striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel, 24, from Portuguese giants Sporting CP for an initial fee of €10 million after agreeing a deal in March.
Toivonen, whose current contract at the Philips Stadion expires next summer, has been linked with a number of English clubs, including Fulham and West Bromwich Albion, in recent times.
“We never comment on any sums, but we have reached an agreement with Norwich for Ola,” Brands told Swedish newspaper SportBladet.
“Now it’s entirely up to him to decide whether he wants to move.
“We start training on Monday, if there is no deal with Norwich then I expect to him to be here.”
The Sweden international, 26, bagged 11 goals in 22 appearances in all competitions for PSV last season, and has previously been linked with a move to Liverpool.
