Nollywood actor, Babatunde Omidina, popularly called Baba Suwe, is yet to get over his experience
with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.
Omidina told Arts Dome during a telephone interview, that the experience makes him unhappy
anytime he remembers it.
Omidina was arrested by operatives of the NDLEA at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport
on October 12, 2011 on allegations of ingestion of narcotics.
He was reportedly detained without any evidence that he ingested hard drugs. He did not excrete
any of such substance throughout the period of his incarceration.
He said, ‘‘There is no way such a development will not make one sad. Even my fans are not happy
about what happened to me. Those who will feel happy about it are my enemies. There is no way what
happened to me will not disturb anybody who experiences such.’’
Promising his fans to expect some good films from him soon, the actor described as untrue reports
that some of his close friends abandoned him because of the incident.
‘‘There is no such thing. But I must say that there is no way what I experienced will not affect
certain things. My friends and colleagues are still with me. None of them deserted me,” he added.
He further said it was vital for stakeholders in the movie industry to join hands in order to return
the industry to its glorious days.
Expressing happiness with the popularity of Yoruba movies outside the country, the actor urged
practitioners to continually strive to produce quality films.
‘‘Our focus should be how to ensure that we have good movies. We should also tackle piracy,” he said.
Besides, the actor added that his son, Adesola, who is into acting, took the decision of his own
volition without him forcing him to do so.
