Tuesday, October 15 Declared As Eid-el- Kabir

Alhaji Sa'ad Abubakar III, the
Sultan of Sokoto State, and
the head of the Nigerian
National Supreme Council for Islamic
Affairs (NSCIA), has announced Tuesday,
October 15, 2013, as Eid-el-Kabir.
On Sunday, Prof. Sambo Wali, the chairman of
Sokoto Sultanate advisory Committee on
religious affairs, said in a statement the date
was pronounced after Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013,
had been declared as the first day of Zul-Hijja,
1434 AH (Hijri calendar) by the Sultan of
Sokoto.
On Saturday, October 5 (the 29th day of
ZulKi'ida,1434 AH), various moon-sighting
panels across the country confirmed the
sighting of the new Moon of Zul-Hijja,1434
AH.
According to Islamic tradition, Muslims from
all around the world would gather together in
Saudi Arabia to climb Mount Arafat, a granite
hill east of Mecca, on October 14 for the
annual Hajj. The Eid festival comes up a day
later.
The Federal Government of Nigeria is expected
to announce Tuesday, October 15, and either
the preceding day, or the day after the
festival, as public holidays.
