The Kebbe Local Government of Sokoto State
said on Thursday that it bought drugs worth
N1.3 million to curb cholera and other
communicable diseases in the area.
Alhaji Bala Kokani, the Chairman of the
council, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN)
in Sokoto that the drugs were distributed to all
the health facilities in the 11 electoral wards
of the area.
``They are to be dispensed free to pregnant
women, the elderly, indigent and other
vulnerable persons," he said.
Kokani said that the recent outbreak of gastro
enteritis in some villages had been brought
under control.
``The ugly situation is fully under control and
we have been sensitising the people to always
boil their water before drinking.
``This remains the only efficacious option
available to the people to prevent the outbreak
of epidemics," the chairman said.
Kokani also advised the people to use the open
dug wells provided across the area and to stop
defecating in streams and rivers, to prevent
the spread of diseases. (NAN)
