The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is
unhappy over the latest slide in the Fifa
rankings by African champions, Nigeria.
The Super Eagles dropped one place in the
latest world rankings released on Thursday
despite winning two international games in the
month of September.
Victories over Malawi in a 2014 Fifa World Cup
qualifier on September 11 and a 4-1 win over
2013 Afcon finalists, Burkina Faso four days
later had raised hopes that the African
champions were in line for a huge leap up the
ranking table.
Fifa’s latest classification shows that the Super
Eagles dropped one place to 36th in the world
rankings despite picking up 700 points for the
month.
Nigeria however moved up on place in the
African rankings and are now ranked fourth in
Africa but NFF President, Alhaji Aminu Maigari
is not impressed.
“I am shocked that we dropped in the Fifa
rankings because everyone saw that we did
very well this month with two very impressive
victories against Malawi and Burkina Faso. I
still don’t understand how the rankings work,”
Maigari told supersport.com.
The Ivory Coast, Ghana and Algeria are the
three African countries above Nigeria on the
latest Fifa rankings.
Nigeria’s highest Fifa ranking was fifth in 1994.
