The Italian coach was not impressed by his
side's performance and has insisted they must
improve if they are to be successful this term
Carlo Ancelotti has voiced his discontent with
Real Madrid's showing in their narrow 2-1 win
over Elche in La Liga on Wednesday evening.
A controversial stoppage-time penalty
dispatched by Cristiano Ronaldo saw Madrid
eventually bag the full three points, but
Ancelotti warned his side that if they played at
the same level on Saturday they will have no
chance of beating cross-town rivals Atletico
Madrid.
"I am not happy. We need to play differently.
We suffered a lot during the match,
particularly during the closing minutes of the
match. Playing the way we did today, we are
not going to win the derby," the Madrid coach
said at a press conference.
"We need to play better, with more intensity
and more personality. We didn't have control
of the game in the second half. The only
important thing is that we won but that's not
enough. We need to improve."
Ancelotti also briefly discussed the referee's
decision to award the match-winning penalty
and claimed that Pepe, who won the spot-kick,
stressed the official made the right call.
"It is difficult to talk about the penalty,
because you can't see properly when you are
on the bench.
"I talked to Pepe and he told me that it was a
clear penalty."
Madrid currently sit third in La Liga trailing
leaders Barcelona and second-placed Atletico
by two points.
