Barber flees over alleged attempted rape of minor

A barber, Lateef Olateju, has fled his residence in Yemoja, Ido-Osun, Osun State, after he was caught attempting to rape a four-year-old girl (name withheld), who visited his salon to have a hair cut.

Commissioner of Police, Osun Command, Mrs Dorothy Gimba, has ordered an investigation into the allegation.

Speaking with our correspondent, on Sunday, Gimba said the police would ensure that justice was done in the case.

A statement by the command said the Police Family Unit would give the victim, “who is a kindergarten,” medical attention.

Olateju allegedly attempted to defile the minor in his salon on August 2, 2013 but a resident, Obisesan Gbolahan, caught him in the act and reported the case to Dada Estate Police station, Osogbo.

He was said to have undressed the little girl inside his shop and was about defiling her when Obisesan raised the alarm.

Olateju subsequently sneaked away during the commotion that greeted his alleged act. His whereabouts is still unknown.
