Unemployment: First Lady wants more investments in tourism
Nigeria's First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, during the week,
called for more investment in the tourism and hospitality industry to
curb unemployment. Patience Jonathan made the call at the inauguration
of a private hotel in Abuja.
She said: "In my capacity as the Tourism Ambassador of Nigeria, I commend this laudable initiative. It is my prayer that more Nigerians will venture into the hospitality industry, thereby creating more jobs for our teeming youths."
She lauded the proprietor's efforts to complement government in creating employment and job opportunities in the country.
Patience stressed that massive investment in the industry would reduce unemployment and youth restiveness.
The Managing Director of the hotel chain, Mr Makpari Robert, said the third chain of the Ayalla Hotel has 135 rooms and suites and combined staff strength of 250.
Robert urged the Federal Government to give investors tax incentives.
"We plead with the relevant authorities to give real investors some tax incentives. The idea of multiple taxes and rates is not helping Nigerian investors.
"We need business friendly tax policies for indigenous investors as we are truly helping government to take a very serious burden from it," Robert said.
