Sacked Ministers will not be missed - Analyst

A public affairs analyst, Adebola Soetan,
on Thursday surported the sack of nine
ministers who were recently sacked by
President Goodluck Jonathan because they
didn’t “stand out” and were also
nominated by godfathers who have now
rebelled against the President.
Speaking on Sunrise Daily, he said “I don’t
lose my sleep” because thousands of Nigerian
professionals lose their jobs on a daily basis.
The cabinet shake up which seemed to catch
the affected ministers unawares did not
surprise Mr Soetan who said that the process
of their selection into their various offices
was not credible.
“I look at the ministers in Nigeria as human
products or human commodities for
patronage and appeasement,” adding that
their appointment is not based on “any
concrete professionalism, passion or vision.”
Those who cannot fight their governors, or
godfathers (who appointed, nominated them
for positions), would have to go since there is
a crisis in the PDP, he said.
Although, he stated that it is the President’s
constitutional right to hire and fire, many ex-
ministers were nominated by godfathers. He
cited an example of the former education
minister, Ruqayat Rufai, whom he credited
Governor Lamido for nominating.
He said the ministers who were nominated by
rebellious governors in the PDP should have
quit before they were booted out of the
cabinet.
None of the current ministers have done
exemplary jobs because “they were
manufactured, not for a vision, but for
appeasement”.
